Real-time application-centric views, comprehensive reporting, and task-oriented workflows in updated FactFinder™ solution enhance usability, enabling enterprises to manage applications in heterogeneous server environments

RTP, N.C. – November 10, 2008 – BlueStripe Software, the only provider of APM 2.0 solutions for dynamic data centers, today unveiled FactFinder 1.1, the latest release of its flagship application management product that enables enterprises to confidently stage, deploy, and manage business critical applications. FactFinder 1.1 delivers significant usability enhancements for application support and infrastructure owners, offering an unprecedented combination of new application-centric views, reporting, and task-orientated workflows. These capabilities allow users to understand the structure and relationship of their applications and work together to efficiently manage applications identify performance issues, and perform triage to resolve issues.

“Today’s performance-driven organizations need a highly efficient, well-utilized infrastructure running complex applications that consistently meet or exceed service-level expectations,” explained BlueStripe CEO Chris Neal. “FactFinder bridges the gap between enterprise applications and new virtual environments on which they are being deployed, providing application visibility and management capability for heterogeneous environments. With this new release, we’re delivering functionality to enhance user productivity and manageability, which is critical for application support and IT management roles.”

Enhancements Make it Easier to Understand Application Dependencies
Application support and infrastructure owners gain mission-critical insight from FactFinder’s enhancements, making applications easily recognizable with new application-centric view and naming capabilities, integrated configuration detail, and robust user workflow and reporting features. New capabilities announced today include:

  • Application-Centric Views

FactFinder provides a visual overview of the application ecosystem for IT managers and application owners, allowing them to quickly see application dependencies in relation to the overall application infrastructure. To make it simple and recognizable, applications can now be named in accordance to their internal naming conventions, making it easier to identify and understand which applications or processes are involved.
  • Task & Users Workflows

FactFinder’s new task and user workflow reporting improves the understanding of applications being deployed, migrated, or investigated for problem determination. Users can benchmark the real-time performance of an application at any point during deployment or in the lifecycle of the application, making it easy to document for certification and hand-off. During migrations (P2V, V2P, or V2V), before and after comparisons highlight changes and potential areas of concern, which can be investigated to determine severity and identify who should address the problem. It also consolidates views for change and comparison reports and inventory and configuration, offering performance reporting aggregated at the application level or detailed process level.
  • In-depth Windows and VMware Detail

FactFinder now correlates additional insight into the servers on which it resides, including relevant configuration detail for physical and virtual machines that run the application. This information, when combined with the process-level interaction details captured by FactFinder, provides insight into potential application performance issues.

Answering the Virtualization Challenge
“Enterprises will continue to invest significantly in virtualization, driving major demand for management solutions that allow organizations to take core business applications and move them to the cost-efficient promise of virtual platforms. But moving to a virtual infrastructure is complicated by the lack of end-to-end visibility across even basic physical infrastructures today, and this gets even worse in virtual infrastructures,” said Jeff Boles, senior analyst and director of validation services at Taneja Group. “BlueStripe’s FactFinder is one of an emerging category of solutions that promise to deliver more insight into the complex relationships between applications, databases, and infrastructure components in today’s data centers. In turn, these tools will allow administrators to appropriately size and manage virtual and physical infrastructures alike.”

Organizations have hesitated in moving business-critical applications to a virtual environment due to application performance concerns. Designed to resolve one of the biggest challenges facing today’s virtualized data centers, FactFinder 1.1 makes it easier for infrastructure groups to gain visibility into application performance, including service response times, virtual machine utilization, and cross-server dependencies. Richer, real-time maps of applications and performance management user capabilities help enterprises measure the impact of P2V conversions in greater detail and make business decisions based on intelligent, accurate, timely information.
